Creekside Nursery
At Creekside, we offer more than just plants and material; we also offer the decades of knowledge gained from our own experiences. And since each of us have different interests, we should be able to help you regardless of the type of gardening you favor. John, the Landscape Designer, has a degree in Landscape Horticulture, breeds daylilies, and has gardened with American native plants since the 1980s. Lisa owns a pond and is our expert on both water plants and the care and maintenance of ponds and streams. Lucy has gardened extensively and is expert at propagation and transplanting.
Since we've all battled the occasional pest in our own gardens, we're more than happy to share our knowledge and experience with you. If you have any questions about what's "bugging" your plants, just bring in the pest or a branch or stem from the plant and we'll help identify the pest and prescribe a course of action to help you eradicate it.
Perennials
All the perennials we sell are sourced from neighboring states, providing you with nursery stock that you know has been grown in our sometimes-challenging climate. For instance, most of our daylilies are grown just down Highway 35 in southwestern Wisconsin, We specialize in:
• Native American and Wisconsin plants, such as Compass Plant, Rattlesnake Master, and Culver's Root, with a large selection of prairie natives.
• Daylilies
• Hosta
• Heuchera/Coral Bells
The bulk of our perennials are grown in the La Crosse area, in southern Wisconsin, or in eastern Minnesota. Our native plants are grown in northern Illinois, mostly from Wisconsin and Minnesota genotypes. When you purchase perennials from Creekside, you know that they're hardy in our area!
Shrubs
While most nurseries sell shrubs in "Number 2" containers, providing you with foot-tall shrubs, at Creekside, we strive to provide you with better value. We sell many of our more popular shrubs in larger, beefier, "Number 3" containers, featuring plants at least 50% larger than other nurseries. And the price you pay for our "Number 3s" is the same many nurseries charge for their "Number 2s"! At Creekside, we aim to give you more plant for your hard-earned dollars.
Trees
We stock a large selection of specimen trees, such as Crabapples, Autumn Blaze Maples, and Pin Oaks. We also offer a selection of more unusual varieties, like Chinkapin and Scarlet Oaks and Korean Maples. And if you're looking for fruit trees, we have them, too; varieties ranging from Luscious Pears to Meteor Cherries to Honey Crisp Apples. We want to give you the best value for your money, providing you with large, well-branched trees at prices that are usually well below $100.
Fertilizers, Soil Amendments and Pesticides
At Creekside, we favor organic methods of pest control whenever popular, but also stock the least-harmful chemical products we can. We favor Neem Oil and Pyrethrin for insect control and Fish Emulsion and Blood Meal for fertilizers, but we recognize the need to also provide fertilizers like Osmocote and herbicides such as RoundUp. All of our soil amendments are organically derived: Blood Meal, Bone Meal, Sulfur, and Iron Sulfate.
Mulches
We provide a number of different mulches, such as shredded bark, bark nuggets and Soil Pep, along with rock mulches that include two different colors of River Rock, Dresser Trap and Red Raspberry granites. We also offer a fine selection of granite, limestone, and sandstone boulders in a variety of sizes. The shredded bark and all rock mulches are available only in bulk, which we can either load directly into your vehicle or deliver to your house for a small charge.
